MoMA Design Store has collaborated with MFA Products of Design program students at the School of Visual Arts. The Products of Design collaboration is dedicated to the study and pursuit of contemporary needs and design’s ability to solve problems.

Spinning this illusion device—made of unglazed bone china with a ball-bearing spinning mechanism—creates a mesmerizing effect that is both calming and addictive. The Illusion Spinner was designed by Oscar De La Hera Gomez for the Products of Design collaboration between MoMA and the School of Visual Arts. De La Hera Gomez devised this intricate design through mathematical and spatial analysis to morph from an orderly gridded pattern to a dynamic swirling motif when in motion.
